With 70+ countries participating, WSDC is the most well-spread international format. Students debate an extemporaneous topic, or “motion”, which is announced thirty minutes before the debate starts. Each round is contested by two teams, three students will be on the Government and advocate for the motion, and two of which are on the Opposition and advocate against the motion. As speakers do not have access to the internet for preparation, World Schools rewards clear, well structured, and eloquent argumentation that ensures one’s points stand up under continuous scrutiny.

Examples of what an “average” World Schools topic might look like include “This House believes that megacities in developing countries should limit economic migration” or “This House believes that major tourist destinations should significantly limit the number of tourists that can visit”
